Apparently in the 80s the only good place for teenagers to get laid was in closed department stores after hours. We take a look at two films that takes advantage of that and sends some slashers in to keep the kids company. First up we look at some blocked memories in The Initiation. After that we play some games in Hide And Go Shriek. Also we chat about Star Wars, Freddy’s Nightmares, and Friday The 13th.

This week we’re taking a look at some crazy Asian movies. First we head to Japan and try to make sense out of Ichi The Killer. Then we hop over to South Korea and get kidnapped for 15 years as we experience Oldboy. After that we chat about US, Shazam, and talk about this season of the Walking Dead.

First up two vactioning hillbillies are just trying to spruce up their new summer home when a bunch of teenagers start offing themselves all over their property in Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil. After that we take a trip to The Cabin In The Woods to watch some college kids get watched by an evil corporation set to use them as a sacrifice to keep the world from ending. Also we chat Captain Marvel, the merits of having VuDu instead of universal healthcare, and monsters running amok.
This week we open our toy box and see what our figures have been up to. First up is a trip to the Bodega Bay Inn as we use our psychic powers to find Toulon’s puppets in Puppet Master. After that we go undercover and find demons trying to escape a warehouse via some toys in Demonic Toys. We also talk about the direction of the DCEU, The Haunting Of Hill House, and Cold Skin.
We’re back! After a week off we come back with a couple of Hammer films. First up Oliver Reed plays a rich douche who is set to inherit a lot of money until his long thought dead brother returns in Paranoiac. Then we delve into what drives this woman insane in Nightmare. After that we talk some about Glass, Ted Bundy, Spider-Man Into The Spiderverse, and Watchmen.
The sleaze returns to the drive-in! We talk about two women in prison films that star Linda Blair and have HEAT in the title. How is that for a convoluted theme? First up we chat about the weird hot tub in the warden’s office in Chained Heat. Then we talk 1980’s communist politics in Red Heat. After that we chat about the new Spider-Man trailer, Doug goes on a serial killer spree, and Noah reveals the Chained Heat multiverse.
We are down a host as Doug got another moose tangled up in his internet so we start things off for some reason talking about Patrick Swayze and then transition to talking about people from the Poltergeist films. After that we talk about two Bee movies with The Deadly Bees and then Michael Caine helps us take on The Swarm. We also talk about Mindhunter, Into The Spider-Verse, and complain about all our health issues.
This week we’re celebrating the birthday of The King Of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. First up we look at the completely fictional TV Movie ELVIS directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell as the man in the jump suit himself. After that we finally get into the true adventures of The King by talking about Don Coscarelli film Bubba Ho-Tep starring Bruce Campbell. After that we talk about Bandersnatch, Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse, and how depressing The Road is.
For Christmas we got you a double feature of Mark Hamill and John Carpenter working together! First up we talk about John Carpenter’s anthology film Body Bags. After that we get a movie that has Luke Skywalker, Superman, and that lady from Cheers in Village Of The Damned! After that we comment on the chaos at Noah’s house, some movies to watch for Christmas, and troll a list that tries to convince us Rocky IV is a Christmas movie.
Lionsgate gave us an early Christmas present by dropping the new Hellboy trailer today. This reboot of the Del Toro films seems to pick up on a similar tone which makes me wonder why Mignola wanted to start over rather than continue on with Del Toro’s series of films. He promised a darker tone but this seems on the same track. I guess we’ll see in April when the film hits theaters.
Hey everyone, Sometimes Mike here. Between living in hotels and also locking myself out of GN.com, I’ve been away for a bit. But with the hotel’s wi-fi, and the help of some guy named Bryan in GN IT, I’m back now, and what have I got for you? No, I didn’t get you any T-shirts. I didn’t know what sizes to get, or if you’d even wear them if I got them for you.
No. Today, I’ve got a new trailer for you. The movie is called Brightburn, and while James Gunn’s name is stamped prominently on the trailer, as well as shamelessly on the above title, it was written by his brothers, Brian and Mark Gunn, and directed by David Yarovesky.
The tagline goes thus: What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?
Sounds familiar, and you’ll spend the trailer making note of all the similarities to you know who. Superman…in case you didn’t know who but didn’t want to ask for fear of looking silly.
Give it a look:
I mean, they even used the same font from Man of Steel. And I haven’t looked that closely into it, but the music sounds very close. Zack Snyder’s vision of making the DCEU’s Superman (or at least, this movie’s version of an alien that for copyright reasons definitely probably isn’t Supes) the evil overlord of Injustice fame is coming true, at the hands of a group of people very capable of making it worth seeing. At least we know there might be decent, unambiguous character development this time around.
Superhero horror is the next logical step in this equation, and let’s be honest, it’s taken a lot longer to hit the big screens than you figure it would. This looks interesting for sure, and my curiosity is more than a little piqued at the timing of such a movie, what with Gunn getting the boot from Disney, and half the DCEU’s future being a giant question mark. Is this a play to prove something to the ill-fated, lackluster WB/DC movie-verse, or is it a move in spite of them? Either way, James Gunn’s money is in the pot, so I think we’re in for something special.
Brightburn hits theaters May 24th, 2019.
