Mean WOO! by God, Gene Okerlund passed away at the age of 76.
I remember creating my own backstage interview segments or post match interviews with my LJN Mean Gene. And every time Gene would be interviewing Hogan I would always say, Let me tell you something Mean Gene.
I received my first WWE True FX figure in Curt Hawkins (Elite 64). I’m glad Mattel is going with the Hasbro model with their figures, with interchangeable hands, heads and sometimes build-a-figure.
Hawkins face scan is perfect and swapping hands is easy like a Marvel Legends fig. He comes with a removable vest, cane, and breakaway RAW wall. I didn’t get the variant but the orange and blue.
Now that I got Hawkins I can now place him next to Ryder to fantasy book a episode of The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast.
This week we take to the stars as we talk about one movie that rips off Star Wars and another that was based on the property that inspired Star Wars. First up is the movie that made David Hasselhoff famous. Ok not really but he is in it. It’s Starcrash. After that we go off to fight Ming in Flash Gordon. Also we chat about Blood Simple, The Predator, and how our Christmas was.

Lionsgate gave us an early Christmas present by dropping the new Hellboy trailer today. This reboot of the Del Toro films seems to pick up on a similar tone which makes me wonder why Mignola wanted to start over rather than continue on with Del Toro’s series of films. He promised a darker tone but this seems on the same track. I guess we’ll see in April when the film hits theaters.

I don’t know how many of you are watching even watching the CW Arrowverse anymore. I want to say I don’t blame you, then make a snide remark about Guggenheim’s continued decimation of a once proud group of shows, but I can’t. I myself have only been keeping up with Legends this season. The plan is to eventually catch up with Arrow just to see if maybe it’s getting better, knowing in my heart that it probably isn’t.
But it’s crossover season, so I tuned in this week. While I haven’t kept up with the individual shows, the first thing the crossover taught me was that I don’t want, or need to catch up with Flash, and probably the same for Supergirl.
This isn’t to say that the crossover was not any good. It had a lot of great moments, but that’s for another piece. This is about the Legends’ place, or lack thereof, in this year’s crossover.
Legends is, for lack of a better word, insane. Each week seems to be a bigger dare as to what they can get away with, and I’m absolutely loving it. So when a magical item shows up in the crossover, and the gang start relying on the tech nerds to crack it, I was more than a little bothered by it. You’ve got Constantine RIGHT THERE on the Waverider!
But then the midseason finale for Legends came on, and instantly all was forgiven. It quickly became apparent that not only did Legends not NEED to participate this year, but doing so would have only slowed them down.
For those not following, Legends has a get out of responsibility free card. They have a time machine, and are on the search for magical creatures this season. When you have those cards to play, you can do damn near anything you want.
Without revealing too much, Constantine has managed to completely screw up the whole of reality, and now must set things straight with the help of a shapeshifter and a cat. Believe me, it’s weirder than it sounds.

Did I mention how ridiculous this show is? Maybe you’re a fan of the darker, grittier DC, and I am too, but come on. Singing puppets. How can you not love it? I know I keep saying it, but right now, Legends is the best of the Arrowverse. Full stop. After this episode, I agree with the decision to leave Legends out of the crossover, but for a different reason. The showrunners had their actors’ already grueling schedule in mind. I’m glad they didn’t do it because it would have ruined the Legends midseason finale.

This week we go Full Quaid. Luckily it’s full Dennis Quaid otherwise we’d be in big trouble. First up we see him get marooned on a planet with an alien and they have to work out their differences in Enemy Mine. Then we see him get shrunk and injected into Martin Short . . . where they have to work out their differences in Innerspace. After that it’s chatting about The Legend Of Hill House, Christmas Specials, and Hostiles.
This morning I saw on Facebook that the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame got dropped. After a few viewing throughout the day here’s what I have to say.
I’m liking what I saw… To me it felt like Avengers: AoU because how bleak it was. Stark talking about dying floating in space, I can see him getting Rescue[d]. Capt. is clean shaven and is worried about the future and I got all electrified when he gave his “Not sure what to do if it doesn’t work” speech. A down and out Steve Rogers fighting to survive, it can get nasty.
Hawkeye or Ronin both good characters in the comics. I don’t mind the costume change. Barton slice and dicing probably mad his family disappeared in the snap.
So! GOTG wasn’t highlighted much in the trailer and no tears over that. Scott Lang returns, how nice. Hopefully we find out how he excepted the Quantum Realm.
Thor, Banner not much to them in the trailer I hope A:EG isn’t focused on Thor like the last film. And! If you seen the set photos and the dirt sheets talking about time travel, not a fan. Don’t want to relive Marvel’s Avengers all over again. Could come out as a What If? story.

It’s finally the final episode of the finale! We go over the reunion, take your phone calls, and talk about offense language. It’s being reported that Tom Billington better known as the Dynamite Kid has passed away today on his 60th birthday.
Dynamite was one half of the tag team duo the British Bulldogs along with Davey Boy Smith. The Bulldogs won tag team gold at WrestleMania 2 defeating The Dream Team (Valentine and Beefcake).
My favorite memories of Dynamite came from the Bulldogs vs. Hart Foundation from the 80’s. Their tag matches were stiff and brutal. It wasn’t until later in life when I watched Dynamite in Japan. His bouts with Tiger Mask were legendary.
Back in 2013 Highlights got the opportunity to sit down with Billington to talk about his career and his thoughts on the Benoit murderers.
What is this book about? This is the fourth installment in McGuire’s Wayward Children series of novellas. The beauty of this series though is that you can read the books out of order. While they all connect, it doesn’t matter which order you read them in – with the exception of Beneath the Sugar Sky (read that one after Every Heart a Doorway). This book is the story of Lundy, who we meet as an adult in Every Heart a Doorway. This is the story of how she stumbles through a door into the Goblin Market and learns to ask for nothing because everything has a price – even the answers to questions. And little girls and boys who don’t learn that lesson, well, they might just fly away.
Review: I am completely in love with this series. This fourth installment (out in January of 2019) is not a disappointment. The story of Lundy’s Goblin Market fits with the rest of the series – the stories of children who fall into worlds other than our own and for one reason or another are kicked out. The Goblin Market is like the other worlds we have so far encountered – charming and wondrous at the outset but more complicated and full of traps as the story goes on. McGuire is a master storyteller and with this volume continues a series that is the perfect mix of fairy story and horror story.
Three words that describe this book: Bittersweet, Coming of age, Logical
