Friday The 13th The Game Brings In Tommy Jarvis

Ever since it was announced I was super excited about this game.  Why has it taken this long?  The idea of a multiplayer game where one player is Jason and you hunt down, kill, and dismember camp counselors controlled by other players seems like a no brainer.

Add in that you can select specific skins to pick your favorite Jason, different weapons to make the kills variable, and mo-capped by Kane Hodder himself and this becomes a must buy.

Today they broke the news that a new playable character may in fact give Jason a run for his money.  Tommy Jarvis from parts 4-6 has come to Camp Crystal Lake.  This Tommy is based on the version from part 6 when Thom Mathews played him.  He sports the classic denim jacket and bad attitude.

I can’t wait to jump into the game on either side to stalk/run through Camp Crystal Lake and see what Easter Eggs await.  The website http://f13game.com/ allows you preorder the game now.  It looks like the multiplayer version will hit early 2017 with a singler player version coming out later in 2017.  Are you picking this up?

Wes Anderson’s H&M Christmas Commercial

I’m a fan of Wes Anderson.  Sometimes his schtick works.  Sometimes it doesn’t.  But I think he’s got a decent track record.  my favorite films of his are still Rushmore and Life Aquatic.  It’s fun to see him stretch out into other media such as commercials when it happens.  He did an American Express commercial a few years ago and now he’s back with his easy to spot visual style in the new H&M Christmas commercial. He enlists frequent Anderson actor Adrian Brody to bring the holiday cheer.  Below is the full length trailer.  Shorter versions have been running on TV nation wide.  Enjoy.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailer Breaks The Internet

James Gunn posted on Facebook that the trailer for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 has become the biggest trailer debut for Marvel Studios yet.

jamesgunn

I have watched the trailer at least ten times since it debuted online on Saturday.  Guardians was a surprise hit for me as I knew nothing about the team other than they had been in a Marvel coming at some point in history.  So when I went in with no expectations I was not expecting to leave the theater with a new favorite movie in my top 5 of all time.

I told a friend once that I felt like I did the first time I watched Star Wars as a kid.  He was surprised but for me I just knew this was something special and I was hoping that it being connected to this bigger Marvel Cinematic Universe would not eventually drag the franchise down and making it fall in line with all the others.  Don’t get me wrong I am a big MCU fanboy but this feels like something different.  Something special.  I just didn’t want that shiny wearing off when you have guidelines to fulfill when it has to fall in line with the other films.

Well this trailer looks like Gunn and company are still going full steam ahead on doing their own fun filled space adventure.  I can’t wait to check it out next summer.  Have you checked it out yet?

A Very Special Episode Of Horror Junk

Anyone who knows me knows I started my podcasting days on a video podcast called Horror Junk.  Well November marked the 10th Anniversary of the first episode so we decided to get together and do a fun episode to mark the ocassion.  So for the first time ever all three hosts of Horror Junk sit down to review a ultra low budget horror film in old Horror Junk fashion.  Enjoy.

Is Arrow The Best Batman TV Show?

I’ve always said that how I thought Arrow got on the air was that someone went and pitched a Batman TV show but got turned down as they felt that the Batman property was too big to be on TV.  They looked at each other and said “Is there another billionaire hero we can just put in his place?  Green Arrow is rich right?”

I’m not saying that that’s a bad thing as it has worked out perfectly.  On paper there is no way this show should work.  A super hero show on the CW where we explore the relationship between Oliver Queen, Laurel (Dinah) Lance, and their peers.  Ugh.  Sounded horrible.  I passed until I kept hearing after the first season that it was actually pretty good.  I saw it on Netflix and figured why not.  After the first episode I was hooked.

Since then we’ve seen them borrow plenty from the Batverse.  Deathstroke while not defined as a Bat Villian has played a big part in the Bat mythos.  Rhas Al Ghul and the League Of Assassins were the center point of season 3.  Similar starts being portrayed as a dark vigilante.  A secret headquarters full of gadgets and weapons.  Eventually creating a superhero family around him.  Last season his tech savy girlfriend and side kick Felicity got shot and was in a wheelchair giving her an Oracle feel about her.

This week we’ve been watching a 4 part crossover between all the CW DC shows (which we can thank Arrow for all the spin off shows) called INVASION!  Slight spoilers below.

On Flash we saw that a handfull of the heroes were abducted by the Dominators.  On Arrow we find that the heroes (Oliver, Sarah, John, Ray, and Thea) were hooked up to a machine that put them in a dream state where they were living out what would be their perfect life.  This immediately made me think of . . . yep something from Batman.

Specifically Batman: The Animated Series.  In an episode titled Perchance To Dream Bruce Wayne awakens to find that his parents never died.  He’s happy and it turns out that someone else is Batman so he can just relax and enjoy life as Bruce Wayne.  But of course nothing ever stays happy.  What I didn’t know about this episode was that it was written by horror novelist Joe R. Lansdale.

There is always minor things like this that make me think more and more that I was right about the original pitch meeting.  I’m not sure why I’m okay with that happening on this show as any other show stealing ideas, villians, or storylines I would not be very excited about it.  But with the CW DC Universe I am perfectly fine.  Maybe it’s my distaste of Gotham that lets me enjoy this as my Batman alternative.  Regardless I’ll still be tuning in every week.  What do you think?

CW Drops A Full Length Super Hero Crossover Trailer

The date is finally nearing and The CW has dropped a full length trailer for the Supergirl, Flash, Arrow, and Legends Of Tomorrow crossover.  It shows us a lot more of what the threat is and what we have in store.  How Supergirl makes it onto Earth 1 is still unknown but we’ll get to see what is probably our best bet for the live action Justice League on TV now with the DC movies in full swing.  So feast your eyes below and get ready for November 28th.

Don’t Breathe Blu-Ray Review

If you missed it in theaters then I’m happy to tell you that Don’t Breathe hits dvd and blu ray on November 29th and my friends at Sony were kind enough to send over a copy for me to check out.

Don't Sleeve Trio

The movie itself is great.  I saw it in the theater and loved it and it hasn’t changed on disc.  It is so full of tension and dread that it’s perfect any horror fan.  This film takes the idea of the home invasion film and flips it on its head.  Here a trio of theives break into a blind man’s house for what they think is an easy score only to find out that the blind man may be more than they bargained for.

The production design and sound design on this film are outstanding.  Sometimes it makes you scared to breathe it’s so quiet and then so tense that the sound feels like it’s about to burst your ear drums.  Steven Lang does a great job as the blind man.  He makes it believable and flat out scary that someone like this could exist.

The special features on the blu ray are a little lackluster.  I had hoped for a more but sadly retail releases are becoming less and less robust as digital content has taken over.  For us that still love physical media it makes me sad.  It has 5 featurettes that are about 5 minutes apiece.  After hearing Fede Alvarez on the Shock Waves Podcast I was looking forward to diving into and breaking down this story but we only get a quick look at different aspects of the film like the cast, set, sound, etc.  It’s better than nothing but I would have loved more.

Overall I would still recommend this as I love the movie and that alone is worth a purchase whether it’s a digital purchase or a physical one.  I do recommend turning off all the lights and putting away all distractions.  Follow the Blind Man into his world and hope that he lets you out.

If you were a giant fan of Chappelle’s Show like I was back when it was on then when you heard Dave Chappelle was going to be hosting SNL you had to be excited.  What would we see?  Any classic Chappelle’s Show characters?  Would he be taking on any current trends in America like he did back on Comedy Central?  Well what we got was Chappelle stepping out of an RV as Neegan from the Walking Dead and staring at a line up of his classic characters.  What followed was a perfect short for us missing the old days.  Thanks for bringing them back Dave.  Check it out below.

CW Teases The First Arrowverse 4 Show Crossover

Ever since Supergirl moved over to the CW we’ve been waiting.  When does she get to crossover with everyone else?  Last year it was established that Supergirl takes place on a seperate Earth than the others.  With it being on CBS it seemed like a good idea so that it would help keep the number of crossovers to a minimum since cross network crossovers are a bundle of red tape.  Now that she is flying on the CW it was only a matter of time before the barriers between the Earths had to be broken and she brought into the fold.  This event seems to be called Heroes vs. Aliens so what can we expect to see?  The teaser below is just that, a teaser.  Can’t wait to see what they got up their sleeve.

Young Justice Season 3 Announced

I’m a fan of cartoons.  Throw in some super heroes and I’m a HUGE fan of cartoons.  One I was a fan of was the DC cartoon Young Justice.  It was fun seeing all the side kicks get their turn in the spotlight and it had a rather unconventional season structure where at the end of season 1 into season 2 it jumped ahead a few months and completely changed the dynamic of the team without any explination so that when the story  unfolded for the season you got to see what these changes were all about.  We were sad when it was announced that it was canceled after Season 2.

There was some lobbying by fans for Netflix to pick it up but it remained pretty silent until today.  There’s no word on where it’s going to be shown but it looks like Season 3 is moving forward in production so we at least will see something.  Were you a fan of the show?

Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events Gets A Trailer

Before now we’ve only gotten a quick peek of Patrick Warburton’s Lemony Snicket giving us a tour of the set of the new Netflix adaptation of A Series Of Unfortunate Events.  Now we’ve got a full trailer of not only the kids but of Neil Patrick Harris in his full Count Olaf make up.  I think it’s perfect casting as he seems like he’ll fully embrace every scene chewing moment.

These books were adapted before for the big screen but never had a follow up.  Doing it as a Netflix series seems like the perfect way to adapt a book series like this.  Check out the trailer below.

New Wonder Woman Trailer Brings The Bling

We have been treated to the second Wonder Woman trailer and we get to see more of the island of Themyscira, more World War I action, and lots of bullets bouncing off of wristbands.

I’ve been vocal about my disappointment with Batman V. Superman but have said that anytime Diana was in her gear throwing down it was pretty awesome.  Can’t wait to see what is in store for Wonder Woman’s first theatrical outing in her own film.  What about you?  Check out the new trailer below.
