I nerded out hardcore at Ash vs. Evil Dead episode 6. It had been spoiled for me that Cheryl would be making her return, so unfortunately I missed the fun of the big reveal. What I did not miss, however, was the amazing attention to detail paid by the amazing AvED writers.
First off, check above for the make up. They paid tribute to the original movie with the forehead bandage and cheek scratches, although maybe goring them out a little bit. After all, 35 years have passed so maybe they’re infected? She should try some antibiotics.
Another nice touch was the art desk in Cheryl’s room. Who could forget Cheryl’s clock masterpiece before the Book of the Dead took over her drawing hand to ruin it?
And I think “I’m gonna make like a tree and fuck you” may be the best quote from anything Evil Dead related. Movies and series combined.
Generally speaking though, I think this episode really encompassed the general feeling and tone I’ve loved from the Evil Dead movie series and continued into the TV series. Throwbacks and references to the original, bizarre and sometimes hacked together continuity, fun and silliness combined with “true” horror.
Cheryl was the original deadite and I, for one, was thrilled to see that same deadite reprise her role. Will we see more from other lost souls from the movie series? I’d love to see Scotty or the original Linda. How about Annie or Bobby Joe? Those may not have the same impact as Ash’s sister, but we fans would love to see them.
I was a bit worried that the TV series would not live up to the original movie series I’ve loved so much, but these last few episodes have put all those remaining worries to rest.
Somewhere almost dead center between the camp of the neon Schumacher Bat and the angry, ultra-violent Snyder Bat, the Lego Batman sits quietly in wait…trying to get his BatTV to work.
Today, Warner Bros dropped trailer #4 for the solo Lego Batman movie out next year. After his scene-stealing cameo in 2014’s Lego movie, the Bat is back and he’s flying solo. He’s saving the day and earning the adulation of millions of fans, but still there seems to be something missing in his life. At the insistence of Alfred, Batman reluctantly learns to take responsibility of the young boy he’s adopted, and along the way, builds a team of heroes to help him on his life’s mission.
The Lego Batman movie hits theaters in February 2017 and features the voice talents of Will Arnett, Ralph Fiennes, Rosario Dawson, Zach Galifianakis and Michael Cera.
Former WWE Superstar Ted DiBiase Jr. is coming out of retirement for a match at Pro Wrestling EGO’s “The Last Call” event on Saturday, December 3rd in Pearl, Mississippi. The event will be a law enforcement fundraiser to benefit Rankin and Hinds County Honor Guard teams. Full details on the event are at this link. It appears DiBiase last wrestled in December 2013 for the FWE promotion.
Before now we’ve only gotten a quick peek of Patrick Warburton’s Lemony Snicket giving us a tour of the set of the new Netflix adaptation of A Series Of Unfortunate Events. Now we’ve got a full trailer of not only the kids but of Neil Patrick Harris in his full Count Olaf make up. I think it’s perfect casting as he seems like he’ll fully embrace every scene chewing moment.
These books were adapted before for the big screen but never had a follow up. Doing it as a Netflix series seems like the perfect way to adapt a book series like this. Check out the trailer below.
We have been treated to the second Wonder Woman trailer and we get to see more of the island of Themyscira, more World War I action, and lots of bullets bouncing off of wristbands.
I’ve been vocal about my disappointment with Batman V. Superman but have said that anytime Diana was in her gear throwing down it was pretty awesome. Can’t wait to see what is in store for Wonder Woman’s first theatrical outing in her own film. What about you? Check out the new trailer below.
So it looks like Ash will be a character in a new Family Guy mobile game (source). But this is hardly the first time we’ve seen Ash starring in a video game.
It all started in 1984 if you can believe that. This was in a time before most major consoles, so the game was instead played on Commodore 64. I don’t recommend playing it as it will forever taint your opinion of Evil Dead, but you can at least watch this guy play it.
This years Halloween may be behind us now and while some may be gearing up for Christmas and giving Thanksgiving a pass, that doesn’t mean the spooktacular season has to come to a close.
Horror icon Jamie Lee Curtis is busy with the second season of Fox’s Scream Queens. However, during directing an episode of the show, she took a few minutes to pose with some of her crew who felt it necessary to pay tribute to her Laurie Strode character from the legendary Halloween franchise.
Over at her official twitter, Curtis posted the following…

TNA responded by blaming spoilers in social media…
“We are proud to have had such a great relationship with Challenge, and appreciate how the channel brought Impact Wrestling to our avid viewers through the years. In today’s world, spoilers are inevitable. We’ve heard from the amazing fans in the UK and know you do not want to wait 3-5 days to watch the program after it airs in the US.
Our goal is to broadcast Impact Wrestling in the UK as close to the US premiere as possible. We look forward to announcing that opportunity soon, so stay tuned. In the meantime, we hope you continue to watch Impact Wrestling on Challenge, Sunday nights at 9pm, as well as Xplosion and pay-per-views and follow us on social media. Thank you.”
Happy Halloween to every one out there is podcast land. This week, your hosts would like to present you with something a little different. Rather than listen to Scott, Doug, and Bryan drone on about a couple of movies for two hours without making any sense, this episode they only drone on about one. Presenting the Night of the Living Dead commentary track. Enjoy!
It came as a surprise to no one (who was paying attention) that Apple showed off new MacBook Pros with a fancy new touch bar at the top that will give contextual buttons on features you can use depending on what program you’re currently accessing. To do this, Apple had to eliminate the current function row. Time will tell if this was a smart move or not based on your current function row needs and, of course, how effective the new touch bar is.
The addition of touch ID and finger-unlocking is very appealing, because the current implementation of “unlock with Apple Watch” is sometimes not quite as seamless as promised.
The only question I have is if a new Apple Keyboard will be released with the touch bar that can work with older MacBook Pros. I’d be on that in a heartbeat.
The new MacBook Pros also leave behind old USB connectors and instead opt for USB3 and Thunderbolt only. While I think this is a move that needed to come around eventually, I also think it may be a little early. But I guess someone needs to be the driving force to leave behind old tech and move on to the next big thing.
In addition to the new MacBook Pros, Apple also released an update to Apple TV which makes browsing shows and discovering new ones faster, easier, and more seamless. The new search functionality will allow shows and movies to be launched from a single search screen rather than having to navigate the interfaces of several different apps to find content.
I’m a huge Stephen King nerd. Like really huge. So when I heard that Simon & Schuster were putting out a book based on the in book childrens book Charlie the Choo-Choo I was excited. It is a childrens book that Jake finds in a book store in the Dark Tower series that has a connection to Mid-World.
Coming at the end of November King will once again don a pseudonym to fit in the Dark Tower meta continuity. As Beryl Evans he’ll be bringing the book to life along with illustrations from Ned Dameron. From the Press Release:
Engineer Bob has a secret: His train engine, Charlie the Choo-Choo, is alive…and also his best friend. From celebrated author Beryl Evans (a pseudonym for Stephen King) and illustrator Ned Dameron comes a story about friendship, loyalty, and hard work.
Fans of Stephen King’s acclaimed Dark Tower series will recognize Charlie the Choo-Choo as the picture book that shows up in Book Three, The Waste Lands, written by the character Beryl Evans. An Easter egg for devoted fans, a mock-up of the book was recently distributed at San Diego Comic Con, where over 500 fans gathered to claim one of 150 copies available. Now in its completion, fans across the country can bring Charlie the Choo-Choo to their home libraries.
Are you picking this up? Are you excited for the movie? Let us know!
24: Legacy will find special forces veteran Eric Carter played by Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton) haunted by his actions overseas when the followers terrorist leader Sheik Ibrahim Bin-Khalid follow Carter and his compatriots back to the U.S. to get revenge. Carter is then drawn into the bigger plan of the terrorists to launch attacks across America when he’s recruited by former CTU head Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto) to stop them. Meanwhile, Ingram’s husband, Senator John Donovan (Jimmy Smits) is running for President. It’s interesting to note that this is the second time that Smits has run for TV president, and he won that election on season seven of The West Wing.
I’ve been an Evil Dead fanboy since the mid-90’s. My friends mocked my obsession with the series and how I quoted Army of Darkness and Evil Dead 2 relentlessly. At the time, I maintained an Army of Darkness website and knew Bruce Campbell’s personal email address. I’d reach out to him occasionally to “interview” him for my site or just tell him I enjoyed watching him in whatever obscure thing I found of his that week.
I attended horror and comic conventions to hunt down the short films Bruce and Sam Raimi made in high school and college, including the short that started it all, Within the Woods. I made friends with fans in other countries who could ship me different versions of the films with small differences from their American counterparts. I bought foreign posters on eBay and hung them around my small apartment in Chicago when I was in college. I dreamed of Evil Dead 4 and the return of Ash, but at some point I had to give up on the dream and realize it’d never happen.
When the series was announced, I felt like a fucking high schooler again. I was just as excited as I would’ve been if they’d have announced Evil Dead 4. Maybe even more excited. Bruce and Sam were involved, and that’s all I needed to know.
The series picked up right where Army of Darkness left off in the sense of tone and pacing. The series makes no mention of AoD of course, but just as the absurdity ramped up through the course of Evil Dead 1-3, the absurdity ramped up an appropriate amount in the series.
While the series takes some missteps (like showing the “force” as it chased Ash’s car through the country), generally speaking I’ve enjoyed the expansion of the mythology and the story of how Ash hasn’t really grown or matured throughout the whole demon-killing process.
Power Rangers – follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove and the world is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat.
This week we revisit the films of Rob Zombie and take a look at The Haunted World of El Superbeasto and the new theatrical release 31 [spoilers from 1:07:35 – 1:19:35]. Come find out if you should head to the theaters and spend your money or not.
